Prime Minister Boris Johnson Statement to Outline a Plan for Exiting Lockdown

The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson used his statement to the country last night to outline a plan for exiting lockdown, in which he encouraged people to “go to work if you canít work from home”. He announced a Covid Alert System, which will be run by a new Joint Biosecurity Centre. The Covid Alert Level will be determined by the reproduction (‘R’) value and the number of cases of coronavirus. The Alert Level will then determine how strict social distancing measures need to be. The system ranges from a level of one, where there is no presence of the virus in the UK to a level of five, where the NHS is at material risk of being overwhelmed. He added the UK is currently in the process of moving from Level 4 to Level 3.

Over three months, the plan envisages the reopening of primary schools, shops and outdoor cafes, subject to transmission rates. The first changes will come on Wednesday, with unlimited outdoor exercise permitted with members of the same household and tennis and golf clubs reopening. Later on today, the Prime Minister will deliver a statement to Parliament setting out further details of the plans, which were missing from last night’s statement. A 50 page document will also be released to outline the plans in full.

The Alliance urges all its members to continue to stay safe and protect your health.
