Independent Age: How do you manage your household bills?

Article by Independent Age

Article by Independent Age

We know that sky high household bills over the past few years have been a strain for lots of older people, and recent rises in energy, water, and Council Tax bills have only added to the pressure.

At Independent Age, we frequently hear stories from older people living on a low income who’ve been forced to make significant cutbacks, whether that’s being unable to put the heating on, going without hot meals, or avoiding flushing the toilet. It’s clear that something needs to change.

That’s why we’re launching a survey, so we can hear from you about how you’ve managed your household bills. We want to make sure that our campaigning is directed at the issues that are really affecting older people in financial hardship, so we are keen to hear your experiences.

Sally, will you take our survey?

Take the survey

We’ll use your answers to put together a report in the autumn and to put pressure on decision makers to ensure older people get proper support with their bills.

If you’re aged 65 or over and have been struggling to make your budget stretch, we want to hear from you. All your answers will be anonymous, unless you give your permission otherwise at the end of the survey. The survey should take about 10 minutes to complete.

Sharing your experiences will help us work to build a society together where no one is forced to cut back on the essentials and everyone has the means to live well.
