Cabinet Office: Capita Recovery Plan

The Cabinet Office outlines the next stages of their Recovery Plan to get Capita’s administration of the Civil Service Pension Scheme back on track

A great many CSPA members who have recently retired, or are on the brink of retiring, have been impacted by the debacle around the transition of the pension scheme administration from MyCSP to Capita on the 1 December last year.

CSPA Pensions Manager, David Luxton, has been providing members affected with support and advice and CSPA officers are currently holding weekly catch-up meetings with the Cabinet Office to press for rapid improvements to the service and communications with the pension scheme members in general.

Last week, on Wednesday 4th February, Lorraine Beavers MP for Blackpool North and Fleetwood, led a hastily convened Westminster Hall Debate on the situation with the Scheme’s administration, giving MPs a chance to list a catalogue of cases from their constituencies. CSPA General Secretary, Sally Tsoukaris, said,

“We welcome the news that our members’ payments are now starting to trickle through, and the hardship loans offered did provide emergency relief, for some members, but the fact remains that far too many Civil Service pensioners have waited, and continue to wait, for far too long for the pension payments they’re entitled to.

“People have been in a state of limbo, being unable to plan their finances, with some suffering hardship or being forced to borrow money from friends and family to get by. This is a totally unacceptable situation, which should never have arisen.

“We were pleased to see the Cabinet Office set out the next stages of the Recovery Plan on the Government website yesterday, and we are glad that a commitment has been made to ensure that scheme members still awaiting payments get them as soon as possible, with interest, however we would like to see plans for a Compensation Scheme for those worst affected set out in due course as well.

“We continue to urge Capita to work with CSPA and trade unions to facilitate the escalation and resolution of the most urgent member cases.

We were pleased to see Martin Lewis’s moneysavingexpert.com website pick up on the story, making reference to CSPA in an article posted yesterday.
