Minimum Income Guarentee
As part of Later Life Ambitions we are calling for:
the Government to adjust the State Pension and benefits
to meet the minimum income guarantee for all
The case for a Minimum Income Guarantee
82% of people don’t know how much income they’ll need in retirement, while 74% have done little or no retirement planning. And nearly half of working-age people have no pension or savings to support them in retirement.
A minimum income guarantee should ensure older people can cover essentials such as housing, energy, food, transport and personal care, while still having enough to stay connected and enjoy some leisure.
It should reflect established benchmarks such as the Pensions UK Retirement Living Standards and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s Minimum Income Standards, and be reviewed regularly as costs and needs change.
What we're campaigning for
As part of Later Life Ambitions we are calling for:
- A Minimum Income Guarantee for older people that covers essential costs including housing, energy and water, groceries, personal care, transport, clothing and communications, with some allowance for leisure.
- A guarantee based on established benchmarks, including the Pensions UK Retirement Living Standards and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s Minimum Income Standards.
- An annual review to ensure the guarantee keeps pace with changing costs and people’s needs.
Later Life Ambitions
Later Life Ambitions brings together the collective voices of over a quarter of a million pensioners through the National Federation of Occupational Pensioners, the Civil Service Pensioners’ Alliance, and the National Association of Retired Police Officers Association.
We aim to encourage today’s decision makers to confront the challenges of tomorrow.
