UN Convention the rights of older people

In early February , Age International presented an open letter to the UK Government, signed by CSPA and 37 other civil society leaders alongside supporters from the UK public, calling for older people to be meaningfully involved in drafting a new United Nations Convention on the Rights of Older Persons.

The Convention will provide legally binding international legislation to address gaps in the protection of older people’s rights. It is essential that older people are at the heart of this process.

Their involvement will:
▶️ Challenge ageist attitudes and affirm older people as equal rights holders in society.
▶️ Ensure that the text of the Convention is impactful and effective by sharing their lived experiences and expertise.
▶️ Build momentum to engage governments worldwide. The UK Government has an important role to ensure older people are heard and their voices shape a world where everyone can age with dignity.
