Gender pay gap – have your say

The TUC recently marked ‘Gender Pension Gap Day’ on 21 August. This was the date that an average retired woman would run out of pension income, if she was receiving it at the same rate as an average retired man. It is based on research showing the gender pension gap in the UK was 36.5% in 2022-23 (the latest year data is available for).

This level of inequality in retirement incomes is just unacceptable. It’s actually even worse for retired civil servants: the latest actuarial valuation of our scheme showed a gender gap of 45%.

Thankfully, some progress is being made. The pension scheme for local government workers has consulted on proposals that would be very effective at closing the gender gap in its scheme. Put simply: we need the Cabinet Office to adopt these proposals for the civil service scheme.

The following petition calls for just that and we would encourage you to sign it and to ask others to do so too.
